HD Construction Equipment Holds Launch Ceremony for Lighthouse Factory Project
- Full-scale implementation of digital-based operating system for Ulsan Campus

HD Construction Equipment held the Ulsan Campus Lighthouse Factory Project Launch Ceremony at Ulsan GOC (Global Operation Center) on January 21. About 30 people attended the event, including CEO Moon Jae-young, Vice President Park Chan-hyeok (Quality Production), and executives and staff from HD Construction Equipment and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering.
A lighthouse factory is a type of factory that, like a lighthouse, guides the future of global manufacturing with cutting-edge core technologies such as AI, big data, and IoT. The World Economic Forum (WEF) and global consulting firm McKinsey have been evaluating major factories worldwide and selecting lighthouse factories twice a year since 2018.
Completed in May 2025, the Ulsan Campus Smart Factory expanded the proportion of automated processes and enhanced its production and quality management system through the ▲integration of the production and logistics lines, ▲real-time location tracking of products throughout the entire process, ▲application of welding robots and vision sensors to the production line of metal fabrication parts, and ▲introduction of autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) and AI-based quality inspection systems to the construction equipment assembly line.
HD Construction Equipment will establish a digital operating system across all manufacturing processes—including production and logistics—at its Ulsan Campus as well as facilities, quality, sustainability management, and supply chain to be listed as a lighthouse factory by 2027.
By leveraging AI, big data, and IoT technologies to improve predictive accuracy and optimize operational management through real-time analysis and proactive responses to various situations, HD Construction Equipment plans to maximize productivity and safety.
“In a rapidly changing manufacturing environment, implementing the lighthouse factory is an essential task to strengthen HD Construction Equipment’s mid- to long-term manufacturing competitiveness. Starting with the Ulsan Campus, we will expand the digital-based manufacturing innovation system to all business sites and establish a global top-tier smart production system,” CEO Moon Jae-young said.
