HD Hyundai is continuing its veterans support activities to remember and honor the noble sacrifice and dedication of patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes.
HD Hyundai announced on the 31st that, in honor of National Patriots and Veterans Month, its leadership and employees visited the National Seoul Cemetery, the Yeongcheon National Cemetery, and the Goesan National Cemetery on May 29 to pay tribute to patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes. About 200 executives and employees participated in this commemorative activity, including HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun and HD Construction Equipment President Moon Jae-young.
Chairman Chung Ki-sun visited the Memorial Tower at the National Seoul Cemetery to lay flowers and burn incense in honor of the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes. Following this, he enhanced the tribute by removing weeds and cleaning tombstones in Area 25, the burial plot associated with HD Hyundai. He also encouraged the employees who joined him in this act of remembrance.
In March, Chairman Chung Ki-sun visited Manila as part of a South Korean economic delegation. During the trip, he laid flowers at the Korean War Memorial inside the Libingan ng mga Bayani (National Heroes Cemetery) to honor the sacrifices and dedication of the veterans.
Following the cemetery visits on May 29, HD Construction Equipment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to build a memorial facility honoring Korean War UN Veterans. The MOU was signed by Minister Kwon Oh-eul of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and President Moon Jae-young of HD Construction Equipment. The signing event was attended by HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun and Ethiopian Ambassador to South Korea Dessie Dalkie Dukamo.
As per the agreement, HD Construction Equipment will assist in building memorial facilities to honor veterans in UN-participating nations of the Korean War (hereinafter referred to as the Overseas Veterans Memorial Facility). They will also provide the necessary construction equipment for the project. The first overseas memorial facility will be constructed in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, which was the only African nation to send ground troops during the Korean War.
HD Hyundai is dedicated to supporting war veterans and the bereaved families of national meritorious individuals. Since 2022, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries have taken turns providing an annual contribution of 20 million KRW to support the surviving children of Navy personnel and those Navy children facing financial hardships. Additionally, the HD Hyundai 1% Nanum Foundation expresses gratitude and respect by offering living expenses and daily necessities to the descendants of national meritorious persons.
Furthermore, since 2021, HD Construction Equipment has partnered with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on the House Remodeling Project to improve deteriorated housing conditions for the families of national meritorious persons, with plans to support a total of 21 households by this year.
Chairman Chung Ki-sun of HD Hyundai emphasized, “It is our responsibility to remember and pass on to future generations the sacrifices and dedication of the veterans who faced their fears without hesitation.” He added, “HD Hyundai will continue to stand together in honoring those who devoted themselves to their country.”
