HD Construction Equipment Secures Large-Scale Order for Ultra-Large Mining Excavators in Mongolia
▶ Total of 63 units, including 100-ton excavators, large loaders, and dump trucks, to be supplied to open-pit mines
▶ Strengthening the HYUNDAI and DEVELON lineups through a unified regional sales network to maximize cross-brand synergy
▶ “The sales strategy leveraging the strengths of 'One Company, Two Brands' is effective; we will establish ourselves as a Total Solution Partner.”
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has secured a major order for over 60 mining machines, including ultra-large excavators, in Mongolia. Since consolidating its operations into a unified entity earlier this year, the company has aggressively expanded its footprint in the high-capacity equipment market by leveraging cross-brand sales synergies.
On Friday the 13th, HD Construction Equipment announced plans to supply 63 construction machines for open-pit mining in Mongolia. The fleet will feature 13 ultra-large excavators (100 tons), four large excavators (53-65 tons), and 24 mining trucks from DEVELON, along with seven more 100-ton excavators, two large wheel loaders, and seven 52-ton excavators from HYUNDAI.
The 100-ton excavator in this order has a maximum digging height of 14.3 meters, about the height of a four-story building. These machines will be deployed in major open-pit mining projects in Mongolia, including the Oyu Tolgoi mine, one of the world's largest copper mines.
This large-scale contract was secured through the regional sales strategy of the integrated entity, fostering cross-brand synergy that would be challenging to achieve as separate companies.
DEVELON successfully secured a comprehensive package deal by pairing its ultra-large excavators with TONLY dump trucks, leveraging the strategic partnership established between TONLY and HYUNDAI in 2024. Simultaneously, HYUNDAI capitalized on new contract opportunities by incorporating DEVELON’s 100-ton model, effectively bridging the gap in its 85-ton and 125-ton ultra-large portfolio.
In the ultra-large excavator market, success relies on both product quality and the ability to provide rapid service and a stable supply of parts. Such factors are vital to maintaining operational agility in demanding field conditions. In addition to the increased profitability from supplying large and ultra-large equipment, HD Construction Equipment anticipates additional orders and a significant rise in After Market (AM) revenue, which can be up to four times the initial equipment price.
As home to some of the world's largest copper and gold mines, Mongolia is emerging as a key market for ultra-large construction equipment. Demand is being accelerated by resource development centered on open-pit mining alongside government-led infrastructure and urban development initiatives.
An official from HD Construction Equipment stated, "Since the launch of our integrated entity, we have achieved significant milestones in the mining market, where the demand for ultra-large machines is increasing. This success stems from our 'One Company, Two Brands' strategy, which creates unique sales synergies. Moving forward, we aim to be a Total Solution Partner that addresses comprehensive on-site needs, rather than just supplying individual machines."
